Building Relationships With Your Donors
There's no better time to acquire new corporate donors than at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Here are some ways to make the most of these seasonal supporters:
* Create a holiday database with fields for each new business address, phone number, contact name and other important information.
* After Christmas, send an additional thank you to each contact in a package that includes a general brochure, financial statement and a flyer with current volunteer and material needs listed.
* Ask contacts if you can send a monthly E-mail update on your mission. They'll enjoy this style of communication and the opportunity for new volunteer activities.
* Once strong relationships are established, ask your contacts for information about employee "matching gifts" programs, company foundations or donor programs, community relations teams and other community-minded services.
* Remember to include companies and contacts when sending invitations to banquets, open houses and other events.
* Enter new information about your contacts with these businesses in fields provided in your database.
* Next holiday season, send a flyer outlining specific ways each company can help.
