Communicating With Your Donors Through E-mail
If you haven't started an E-mail address book for major and corporate donors, start now! E-mail is fast becoming a main communication link for busy business people. Consider using E-mail to:
* Send donors interesting up-to-the-minute information about your mission (i.e., "This morning we succeeded in hiring our new volunteer coordinator -- a position we have tried to fill for many months. John Smith has broad experience in nonprofit volunteer management and we're proud to have him on board. Contact John at john@mission.org.")
* Pledge reminders (only if the donor prefers this method)
* Send short weekly newsletters to your business donors. Many companies now send weekly and even daily newsletters by E-mail to their employees. Your weekly "News In Brief" will help your company contacts get the word out to other employees.
* Event follow-up: Though it isn't an accepted practice to send "thank you" letters by E-mail, you can use E-mail to send an additional thank you to event attendees or to give them follow-up info about the event. An example: "Yesterday, we received word that our event actually exceeded its fundraising goal by $10,000! Thanks again for your help. See you next year!"
If you've used E-mail successfully to communicate with your donors, tell us how by E-mailing your experience to: julie@enexgroup.com.
